The Winner Takes It All

Inspired by my good friend
Mr. Scheez and the prevailing “Award Season” atmosphere in the air, here, my good friends, are my fearless forecasts for the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards which will be awarded this September 2007.

This is exciting. Note: Images Overload (in a good way).

Outstanding Comedy Series:

30 Rock, NBC
Entourage, HBO
The Office, NBC
Two And A Half Men, CBS
Ugly Betty, ABC

Who I think will win:

30 Rock

Who I want to win:

Ugly Betty

* I love Ugly Betty! I had no expectations when I first watched its Pilot episode, but least I know that just before the show ends, I’m officially hooked to it and it’s not even funny. Yeah, I know that though 30 Rock has the greater chance of winning this year’s Emmy, I’m genuinely hoping that they’ll give my little Betty a chance.

***

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series

Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock, NBC
Ricky Gervais, Extras, HBO

Tony Shalhoub, Monk, NBC

Steve Carell, The Office, NBC

Charlie Sheen, Two And A Half Men, CBS

Who I think will win:

Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

Who I want to win:

Tony Shalhoub, Monk

* The first season of 30 Rock gathered consistently remarkable reviews from critics because of its refreshingly novel genre and its new take on office-related comedy. Alec’s Golden Globe win this year is a proof to that. It should be noted, however, that Tony Shalhoub’s 3-time Emmy win still makes him the favourite pick for this category.

***

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

Tina Fey, 30 Rock, NBC
Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives, ABC

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures Of Old Christine, CBS

America
Ferrera, Ugly Betty, ABC
Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds, Showtime

Who I think will win:

Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds

Who I want to win:

America
Ferrera, Ugly Betty

* Mmm.. this is such a tough one. Though it’s a rumor that the Emmy’s is more of a popularity award than a credential one (contrary to The Golden Globe's), I’m having an inkling that America Ferrera might snag this year’s Lead Actress In A Comedy Series award away from Mary-Louise Parker, who cannot simply get off of his weed addiction.

***

Outstanding Drama Series

Boston Legal, ABC
Grey's Anatomy, ABC

Heroes, NBC

House, Fox

The Sopranos, HBO

Who I think will win:

The Sopranos, HBO

Who I want to win:

Grey’s Anatomy, ABC

* Bias aside, I never liked The Sopranos, I think it’s complicated, brutal and too dense for my 2 remaining neurons. I loved 6 Feet Under when it was still shown, but Emmy jurors and I seemed to have contradicting taste in drama shows. I would want Grey’s Anatomy to win this award since Emmy’s favourite 24 was snobbed, but I think Heroes might also have a better chance of winning this year.

***

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Denis Leary, Rescue Me, FX
Hugh Laurie, House, Fox

James Gandolfini, The Sopranos, HBO

James Spader,
Boston Legal, ABC
Kiefer Sutherland, 24, Fox

Who I think will win:

James Gandolfini, The Sopranos, HBO
or

Kiefer Sutherland, 24, Fox

Who I want to win:

Hugh Laurie, House, Fox

* Emmy loves Sutherland and Gandolfini—there’s a profound truth to that, and I think Emmy will stick between the two prominent guys. Hugh Laurie’s performance on House’s 2nd season was exceptional but it mellowed down this year (3rd season), but still worthy of his Golden Globe win. I still want House to win, though a defeat from Jack Bauer would be very much welcomed.

***

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

Edie Falco, The Sopranos, HBO
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer, TNT

Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NBC

Minnie Driver, The Riches, FX

Patricia Arquette, Medium

Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters, ABC

Who I think will win:

Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NBC

Who I want to win:

Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters, ABC

* Edie, Patricia and Mariska had had their Emmy wins before, and I want a new winner this year. Sally Field would be the better choice, already winning 2 Academy Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, and 2 Emmy Awards, one of which is for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama for her appearance in ER, an additional Emmy this year would be a very nice addition.

***

Outstanding Reality/Competition Program

The Amazing Race, CBS
American Idol, Fox

Dancing with the Stars, ABC

Project Runway, Bravo

Top Chef, Bravo

Who I think will win:
The Amazing Race, CBS

Who I want to win:

The Amazing Race, CBS

* Do I still need to rationalize this? The Amazing Race has won this award since 2003, and I think this year will be no different.

Other Awards:

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Masi Oka, Heroes, NBC
Michael Emerson, Lost, ABC
Michael Imperioli, The Sopranos, HBO

T.R. Knight, Grey's Anatomy, ABC

Terry O'Quinn, Lost, ABC

William Shatner,
Boston Legal, ABC

Who I think will win:

Masi Oka, Heroes, NBC (The dark horse to win in this category.)

Who I want to win:

T.R. Knight, Grey's Anatomy, ABC (His performance in the 3rd Season of Grey's Anatomy is exceptional. Far far better than that of O'Quinn or Shatner).

***
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Chandra Wilson, Grey's Anatomy, ABC
Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy, ABC

Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters, ABC

Aida Turturro, The Sopranos, HBO

Lorraine
Bracco, The Sopranos, HBO
Sandra Oh, Grey's Anatomy, ABC

Who I think will win:
Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy, ABC

Who I want to win:

Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy, ABC (I’m hell sure of this! Katherine Heigl's portrayal of Dr. Izzie Steven, particularly by the debut and the end of the 3rd Season, etched this Emmy win. I'm staking my life and reputation for Heigl's win this year. *wink).

***
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Kevin Dillon, Entourage, HBO
Jeremy Piven, Entourage, HBO

Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother, CBS
Rainn Wilson, The Office, NBC

Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men, CBS

Who I think will win:

Jeremy Piven, Entourage, HBO (Entourage and The Emmy's has been a perfect example of a symbiotic relationship.)

Who I want to win:

Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men, CBS (Let's give this guy a chance come on!)

***
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Jaime Pressly, My Name is Earl, NBC
Jenna Fischer, The Office, NBC

Holland
Taylor, Two And A Half Men, NBC
Conchata Ferrell, Two And A Half Men, NBC

Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty, ABC

Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds, Showtime

Who I think will win:

Jenna Fischer, The Office, NBC (The Office will definitely win an award this season, and I think Fischer might get this one for the show.)

Who I want to win:

Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty, ABC (Her witty portrayal as Wilhelmina Slater, Daniel and Betty's nemesis, is the best comeback role for this classy, picturesque lady.)

damn it! i love the choice. i thought we have at least most same choices with this year's emmy winners...

i absolutely like ugly betty than 30 rock, i think it's gonna be a head-to-head competition between the two. 30 rock is one of the most favorable comic series while then ugly bett does too! i really dunno who will stands the crowd.

Of course i love America Ferrera, she's really a good comedian without an effort to be.

i think with regards to drama series The Sopranos has a lot of an edge with Heroes and G.A. but successfully means and with all rants of commercial industry Grey's Anatomy might win the title.

with the lead actress i haven't seen yet bro & sis., law & order, and the riches (baduy noh!)

amazing race.. is this too streotypical or just a bit predictable?

a supportign either of yer choice will do. untill....

wait masyado na siyang mahaba, basta i already said i liek the choice, hehe ;)

sorry may typo, i have loads of junkie here!

thanks for your super super wonderful and comprehensive comments dazed!!

while i was drafting this forecast, i was saying to myself that i am such a TV junkie cozz seriously, i have watched almost ALL of the shows nominated for this year's emmy (either from cable or from pirated dvds). i so so love dramedy american series. their ingenuity and creativity is soooo imitable! totally perfect for my discering palate.. hehe

yey! you're also a betty fan. im seriously hoping she'll win this year's emmy. i think the last time a latina woman won the emmy for the same category was in the mid-70s pa. and i so adore betty. she's so natural! (i loved her even in the hbo movie real women have curves--a must watch also)!

i was surprised NOT to see scrubs for comedy series, survivor for reality series, zach braff (scrubs) for the lead-comedy, and geena davis (commander-in-chief) and ellen pompeo (grey's) for the lead-drama. i still havent watched the riches though. i love minnie driver pa naman. hehehe...

if my premise that emmy's=popularity VS golden globe=merit, then im not afraid that most of my forecasts will win. it will be a long long way to go pa naman before the awards night, im just hoping i'm off-duty during the live telecast hehehe..

thanks for the insights dazed!!! =) loved it!!

go ugly betty, go america ferrera, go the amazing race! i'm bummed out lost wasn't nominated but.. go michael emerson for best supporting actor!

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

hey misterhubs!!!

yey!! another betty fan!! go america!!! hehehe

you're a lost fan pala! i used to love lost before, back when it was in its prime. =( too bad lost got snobbed for the best drama series category (like friday night lights & dexter).

matthew fox was shortlisted pa naman in the top 10 nominees but he was dropped during the final screening. =( elizabeth mitchell should've been nominated for the supporting actress in drama category, the 2 episodes about her character is pretty good.

on the other hand, michael emerson and o'quinn's nominations are so well-deserved!! no doubt 1 of them could snag the trophy away from oka or knight.

=)

Misterhubs said...

Oh yeah, elizabeth mitchell. It's a crime she wasn't nominated. That woman can act.

Dang, you're one prolific nurse, ms. ruff! I'd go for America and Alec but I wished Sandra Oh would earn her second in the 3rd season of Grey's Anatomy. Hiro Nakamura was a winner in Heroes pero malay ko kung nanominate sya.

Tomorrow morning, I promise to take a deep breath and dip into this sea of wonderful writing you did!

maganda ba talaga ang ugly betty??
hmpf!
i'm a LOST fanatic. Its the best show i ever gaze on TV. The storyline is completely new. And episode after episode it brings up new questions adding to the tons of questions already in your mind. Nakaka-lost talaga ang show.

i love kate! super pretty. and she's been in the RP done some humanitarian stuff. i read her bio from ABC.

i want masi oka to win. but i also want someone from LOST. huhuhu.
ganda ng HEROES kasi.
but i want Hiro Nakamura!. hehe ang gulo!
Oka-san, gambatte kudasai!

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

@ misterhubs. yeah, she's really good. i loved lost pa naman when boone (ian somerhalder) was still alive.. pwede na rin si josh holloway and the uber-yummy rodrigo santoro, pero i still miss boone's pinkish cheeks, hazel eyes... (fondles myself) =)

Mas gusto ko grey's. Hehe. Ung iba hindi ko napapanuod e. Pero parang di ko type si pangit betty. haha

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

Thanks for the compliments kiks! and thanks for the comments too! =) really appreciate it!!

Yey! I guess if only we're the Emmy jurors, Betty will end up as the runaway winner. But that's just me. Hehe. Sandra Oh's performance in Grey's, in my opinion, was kinda over-the-top. Though I have to admit that of all the SGH doctors, she's the most natural, effortless and convincing (like Bailey/Chandra Wilson). But Heigl/Izzie, for me, is the most stellar--the way she acts, nakaka-touch tlga, so powerful and straight-to-the-heart.

And yup, Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) is nominated. I think he'll get to win for the Supporting-Drama, but I want TR Knight to get the trophy, while mrhubs wants the lost stars for that category. Hmmm, that one we'll have to wait. =)

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

thanks for the visit chase!! loved the comments as usual!!! =)

yup yup yup chase. ugly betty is the best comedy offering of the entire season. it was supposed to be patterned after colombia's betty la fea, but thankfully, it was the farthest adaptation from the original, and its a good thing. and you simply can't go wrong with america! she's phenomenal. nakakaiyak din minsan ang betty, promise =)

LOST kasi got me lost after the 2nd season, i guess im not that scholarly/sharp enough to pick up with the storyline. (ang dami pang cute.) pero korek ka talaga chase--nakaka-lost tlga ang show. ill try to buy the latest season dvds and have a lost marathon, baka magets ko na this time. hehe

yeah, about KATE, ive heard about her humanitarian mission here in the phils. she did have an interview with the inquirer on the past saying that her experience in the RP prepared her for their hawaii shoot. sana dito na lang kc sa RP nag-shoot ang LOST eh. hehe =) nakita ko pa sana c boone..

not a HEROES fan though. masi oka vs TR knight vs lost stars pala ito no? hehe. go TR (bias tlga!) hehe..

and chase, alindog = charm, allure, appeal (usually used in a sexual connotation) hehehe

Hi geno, thanks for the visit!

You gotta watch Ugly Betty, if only for Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) and Henry Grubstick (Christopher Gorham from Jake 2.0, he was dorkified in the series but still gorgeous nonetheless). =)

No doubt about Grey's. It's still one of the best drama shows of the season. I want Grey's to win for the Drama category, but I think the jurors will favor The Soprano. =( sad sad sad..

Kiks said...

The Sopranos? Oh don't tell me just because they're finally closing the series (a la Harry Potter's Deathly Hallows) they deserve anything?

Well, yes, they do on second thought. Grey's a bit darker during the third season and darn Meredith, she basically got no chance at life with her whimpering at non-essentials.

Chase, Ugly Betty is nice but I got tired of it along the way. Brothers and Sisters is funny and I am looking forward to the next season of Dexter.

And yes, Ruff, 30 Rock is fancy! I thought Alec was anotnishingly good. I never believed before he could act.

Thanks for dropping by!

i am utterly left speechless on the fact that i hardly know any of the tv episodes being nominated for the emmys, much less the ones you have enumerated here in your blog. the fact is, i can count the number of times i actually watched tv within the past two years.

however, i have to admit this one glaring fact. i love james gandolfini and not because he's a fine actor, but because i find him... uhm, cute. there, i said it. so, if ever he really is on the running for a nomination... may he get it. sigh... so darn cute.

:-)

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

Thanks for the comments kiks! The Emmy jurors nominating everything Soprano-related is nothing sort of extraordinary. Super expected, so not surprising! I didn't even know it's already in its final season na. Thank god we'll be seeing new nominees for next year!

Yeah, Meredith's the *real epitome of dark and twisty. My relationship with her is such a love-hate situation. There are times when I really wanted to commiserate with her agonies but there are also situations when I just want to slap her in the face for her to just wake up. But that’s just me. No doubt her life is still the nucleus of the series, she is human imperfection in real form.

I’m slowly loving Bros and Sisters and Rachel Griffiths (I loved her even in 6 Feet Under). I was surprised to see her nominated this year—knowing that it’s the first season of B&S. Good thing the jurors noticed her stellar performance.

And about DEXTER, darn! why Dexter is not nominated for the Drama Series is soo perplexing. And Michael Hall being snubbed by the jurors is just plain criminal!

Consistently-wise, 30 Rock is really good. Betty still can’t seem to remove its annoying telenovela-like undertones. Ferrera winning this year is still a personal prayer of mine. Hehehe.

Thanks for your ubersuperb insights kiks. (Am currently making a post, hope you wont mind getting tagged) Hehehe. Thanks for the visit kiks. Your comments mean so much to me.

Thanks for the visit Daniel!

Don’t worry my friend, my over-familiarity with the shows is just borne out of intense boredom (I’m on an unexpectedly long leave from my work) and when I’m back from my sabbatical, my relationship with the boob tube will be so non-existent. (There are still the wonderful pirated DVDs, though). For the meantime, I’ll be enjoying every minute of my time with the TV, as such good, brilliant shows occurs just once in a lifetime. Hehe.

I guess by now you’re already familiar with my contempt, er, relative dislike for The Soprano’s. I can’t seem to get it’s storyline. Magulo!!! Sobra!!! Hehehe. I watched a few episodes and my neurons got dehydrated! Perhaps it was because (1) I was not able to watch from first season, (2) I have huge huge expectations and the episode I watched is a wee bit boring, or (3) I didn’t exert too much effort appreciating the show. I dunno. Hehe.

James Gandolfini looks, uhm, interesting, and yeah, cute. Hehe. He looks nice. =)

Thanks for dropping by Daniel. Again, belated happy birthday!!
