Flying High (Things We're Thankful For)

Rainy nights, crisp nippy air, frosty winter mornings, calf-high leather boots, warm company of our own families, new acquaintances, and insightful comments from close friends and blogmates.

Decent site traffic, relative absence of the “writer’s block,” passing the boards or prelims or a much-needed exam, sweat-ful yoga and gym sessions, guilt-free shopping sprees, and paid credit bills.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Go Nuts’s cupcakes, guiltless confectionery delights, coffee breaks and splurges, Heroes/Betty marathons, laughers-filled-tête-à-têtes with really close friends, a glimpse of your crush or sweet private nights with the ones you love.

Attaining that much-wanted personal dream, getting a new job, eight hours of nightly sleep, a very meaningful year so far, really good health, peace of mind, and YOU.

Those are the things I’m really thankful for.

To the rollercoaster month of August, I bid you Adieu and here’s to wishing that the months to come will be a bountiful one for me and you.

*

Hoping this quote (and my personal philosophy) will inspire you in your quest for true joy and purpose:
.
“God made you in such a way that when the people of the world would be sitting, you would be standing…

"When the world is standing, you will stand out…

"When the world stands out, you’ll be outstanding…

"And when the world dares to be outstanding…

"You will be the standard.”

*

This smile and kiss is for all of you.

What are the things you’re thankful for?

Oh man, I'm so pissed you didn't include "24" in your marathon, man. Jack Bauer's the best, ayt...hehe. Anyway, I'm still thankful because Betty Suarez is there.hehe

Yes, I will be the Standard. Thank you. Things that I'm thankful for? family, friends, bloggers like you who inspires me, my job, my colleagues, that new Belo facial wash, teeth whitening strips, Bench underwears that makes me giddy..so many things...

As for you, Ruff, nothing can go wrong. You are one perfect son of a goddess.

I promise to read as much as I can when I come back. And comment fatale as religiously and wonderfully as you do.

Take care. And you´re welcome.

@ENGZ: That… is the most flattering compliment I’ve ever received from anyone. Ever! Thank you for the sweetest, nicest compliments engz. I’m overly thankful too for friends like you who appreciate my little literary efforts here in Unbearable Lightness. From the bottom of my heart, thank you thank you thank you.

@MISTERHUBS: I’m also thankful for (1) appreciating yours truly in one of your posts (ie., A Shout-out), (2) posting really well-written and well-thought of entries, (3) always commenting on my chronicles here in the Unbearable Lightness, and (4) for your constant presence.
-Leandro Okabe? I kinda guessed that one. And how could I forget those Chocnut dreams? (Wikipedia-ed Naboko and Sedaris =).. Hehe)

@DANIEL TED: You’re a 24 fan Daniel? I loved that series on its maiden season, but I kinda lost interest on the succeeding ones. I’m thankful for Betty, Wilhelmina and Dexter too. And for newfound friends like you.

@PHILIPPE: “Be the standard”—that has always been the quest, albeit easier said than done. =) Thank you as well for allowing me to enter into your life. If ever I have inspired you in one way or the other, that will always be my pleasure.
-Off-topic: Is the Belo facial wash effective? Hahaha.

@KIKS: For people like you, kiks, I will be forever thankful. Being able to meet someone who understands me, and supports me, and inspires me, and teaches me, and makes me eternally hopeful, is an opportunity not everyone is given. And for that opportunity, I will always be thankful. =)
-And thank you kiks for being the big brother I never had. Enjoy your vacay at Venezuela! I’ll be waiting for your return!

@Q the CONQUEROR: I’m glad to hear about your grades Q! Civetic Humper? So cute!! Since my DSL are still not restored, the showing of appreciation for the PLDT-men will come probably later. Hopefully. Thanks for the comments Q.

@SAVANTE: It’s ironic how we’re blessed with calorific, cholesterol-laden, arteries-clogging gustatory delights costing somewhere between $6-10 a box when our #1 cause of mortality are cardiovascular pathologies. I hope it will reach Malaysia soon, the Krispy Kreme I mean. =)

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

@CORY: In that case, consider this list as my first step. But yeah, rereading the entry makes me appreciate life more. Those blessings are overwhelming, I just could not ask for more. But I bet there’ll be more lists to follow.
-I’m thankful to the Creator for all those blessings. Like you I’m also thankful for my parents, for my past significant others, and to the future Ones, my future Dani, and perhaps, thankful also for my future destiny (be it here, or there!). Stay happy too, cory. Be well always.

@JACKIE: I’m also thankful for appreciative readers like you atejackie who makes me feel that what I’m doing, indeed, has a purpose. It’s readers like you (who support my writings) that inspires me to write more meaningful and inspiring entries. Thank you too jackie, for the nuveau inspiration.

@KALANSAY COLLECTOR: Naiyak ka ba kalansay? Hehehe. I’m thankful also for schoolmates like you and your entries which are always a nice-read. Makes me happy, refreshed, and of course, manic at times. =)

@SAISHO: Same here, I’m still busy converting precious oxygen into carbon dioxide. Makes me think: aren’t people like us the greatest contributor of global warming? Kidding! By the way, I *might get my old job back… by October. Good thing we’re both happy as of the moment. Makes me want to buy more donuts too. =)

@ALLEICARG: Bleach? Hehe. I’m thankful also for the opportunity of meeting people like you—the deep, mysterious, artistic variety (the type of writer who makes me reread posts over and over again to check if my interpretation is the correct, er, appropriate one).
-And thanks for browsing over my old posts. Those months (May-July 05) were the darkest, most depressing time of my entire life. I’m overly thankful I survived that episode. It made me more appreciative of the new life I’ve been rewarded.

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

@JACKIE: Thank you atejackie. I’m really elated that people do appreciate some of my works. It motivates me, both as a writer and as a person, to pursue and continue my craft. And with you as one of my inspirations, how could I ask for more?
-The way you inspire people is a god-given gift we should be thankful for.

@KC: Yeah KC, that was definitely one of the very spectacular things everyone should be thankful for. I’m also thankful for better days, wonderful life experiences, and happy moments like this one. Stay happy too KC.

@MRS. J: Thanks for the comments mrs J (J. Alexander is that you?) =). For that I am thankful. =)
-Being happy and inspired (obvious na obvious sa post ha, ie., Songs of Feelings) are such huge things we should be thankful for (I'm happy and inspired by the way, thanks for asking--but in a different perspective, that is). And of course, I'm thankful for new friends (like you).
-Artistang Artlets Mrs. J? Teatro Tomasino?

What a rundown of to-be-thankfuls there Ruff. Counting your blessings seems to be a good way of staying grounded and grateful despite the world's imperfection. Thank God for your blessings. :)

As for me, I am most thankful for my God, my loved-ones, my best friend, dear friends, humble conversations, the blessing of resiliency, the persistence to live quite good in this cynic world, and kind people like you Ruff. Thanks Ruff for all the concern you've expressed. God bless you!

@KALANSAY: You’re always welcome kalansay. Wow, Artistang Artlets. Grabe!!! Ibang level! Brag Alert: Meron pa bang Thomasians Writer’s Guild? I was an ex-member when I was still in HS/College, Angelo Suarez used to be one of my colleagues.

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

@DRAKE: Yup drake! Listing them here makes me feel more thankful for the blessings I’ve been given (and sometimes taken for granted). Every time I feel down or lacking, remembering everything, every grace, every blessing, and how they have made my life better and happier is surely a balm to the hurt. And I just feel really overwhelmed.
~You’re always welcome drake. Your being resilient and strong, amidst all your quandaries and predicament is something you should be thankful for. And you, helping me to move on, is a thing I’m really thankful for.

ruff nurse-du-jour said...

@JOSH: The gift of life. Aaaah, that’s really something we should be really thankful for.

@PHILIPPE: I might have to try that one. I’ve seen one in a local dept store, might as well buy one… baka maging kamuka ko pa si Lucy. =)

For three months, study participants drank the supplements, dissolved in two cups of water, 30 minutes before each meal. They were also told to cut back on calories. By the end of the trial, sixteen people had dropped out of the study, including 10 out of 48 from the seaweed group, according to findings published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. If you are holding out to buy one of these up until the price tag was right, there's never ever been a greater time than right now. After you consider the price we are able to bring the product to you for, you will realize how being able to acquire it at this all-time low cost could make it one of the better discounts you've run into in a number of years. Eating In The Wrong PlacesIf you are eating in the wrong places, set yourself some boundaries. This could be your kitchen table, dining room table, the cafeteria table. Think about how this will eliminate a lot of the snacking that you have been doing mindlessly in front of the tv or the computer, or even walking around. More importantly, it's essential that any diet plan you choose will not deprive you of meals and trigger a starvation reaction that will destabilize your system.
